- <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>2‐Methylmercaptobenzohydroxamic acid (<jats:bold>mmbHA</jats:bold>) has been synthesized and used to form {Cu<jats:sup>II</jats:sup>Cl<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>(MeOH)[12‐MC<jats:sub>Cu(II)N(mmbHA)</jats:sub>‐4]}<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> ⋅ 4MeOH (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>) and {Cu<jats:sup>II</jats:sup>(μ<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>‐ClO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>)(MeOH)<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>(py)<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>[12‐MC<jats:sub>Cu(II)N(mmbHA)</jats:sub>‐4]}ClO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> (<jats:bold>2</jats:bold>), a copper(II) based double‐decker and a discrete metallacrown (MC) system, respectively. While <jats:bold>1</jats:bold> forms in the absence of a coordinating co‐ligand, the presence of pyridine (Py) leads to a change in the coordination mode of <jats:bold>mmbHA</jats:bold> and a discrete MC <jats:bold>2</jats:bold> is formed. Both compounds have been structurally and magnetically characterized. The magnetic susceptibility measured from 2–300 K shows overall antiferromagnetic exchange coupling within both crown structures and the obtained coupling constants are <jats:italic>J<jats:sub>1</jats:sub></jats:italic>=−88.0(1) cm<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup>and <jats:italic>J<jats:sub>2</jats:sub></jats:italic>=−64.7(3) cm<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> for <jats:bold>1</jats:bold> and <jats:italic>J<jats:sub>1</jats:sub></jats:italic>=−90.0(5) cm<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> and <jats:italic>J<jats:sub>2</jats:sub></jats:italic>=−31.1(1) cm<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> for <jats:bold>2</jats:bold>. However, the ratio of the coupling parameters is highly affected by the structural change.</jats:p>
