- <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p><jats:bold>Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Na<jats:sub>10</jats:sub>[M<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>][MO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>] (M = Fe, Mn) with a Remark on the Magnetic Properties</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>Single crystals of Na<jats:sub>10</jats:sub>[M<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>][MO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>] (M = Mn, Fe) may be obtained via a redox reaction of CdO with the respective transition metal in the presence of Na<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O and a flux as red single crystals, which are sensitive to moisture. The crystal structure (determined from IPDS data, <jats:styled-content>${\rm R} {\bar 3}{\rm m}$<jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="graphic/tex2gif-ueqn-1.gif" xlink:title="equation image" /></jats:styled-content>, Z = 6) contains isolated trigonal aplanar [MO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>] units and <jats:styled-content>$^{2}_{\infty}\rm [M_{3}O{6}]$<jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="graphic/tex2gif-ueqn-2.gif" xlink:title="equation image" /></jats:styled-content> layers of [MO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>] tetrahedra connected via corners to three‐membered rings, which share common edges resulting in the formation of twelve‐membered rings. The statistical occupancy of 21 out of 60 sodium atoms per unit cell is discussed and calculations of the Madelung Part of the Lattice Energy (MAPLE) are given. Furthermore, we report on the magnetic properties of Na<jats:sub>10</jats:sub>[Mn<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>6</jats:sub>][MnO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>] in close relation to the structural entities.</jats:p>
